P2P File-sharing is the new email

Om Malik has a column available at CNN Money claiming P2P is the new email. It's a bold claim, and he really doesn't mean that p2p will replace email.

What Om is saying lies more along the lines of p2p apps replacing email attachments for large files, and he brings along a few examples of companies that are trying to do just that. Notable of those is Pando, a Bit-torrent based approach to sending packages of large files to one or more people.

"Most of us attach dozens of photos to an email and send them to our friends and family," says Pando co-founder Yaron Samid. "It is quite a big hassle, and you are never sure if the email gets to the person you are sending."

Is your mother ready to adopt a streamlined and simplified torrent tracker to receive large packs of grandchild photos? Om seems to think so, and Pando is betting on it.
