The Register is reporting on a tax that has been proposed in the Netherlands which would add as much as $4.30 to every gigabyte of storage in every MP3 player sold. For a top-end iPod, that's an extra $250+, more than enough to completely kill the market for high-capacity MP3 players. The legislation was introduced by Stichting Thuiskopie, an organization which already collects surcharges on blank CDs and DVDs for the Dutch entertainment industry and stands to profit handily if the legislation passes, as The Register is predicting.
