2. What exactly is your definition of ugly? From your write up it seems like you are not even apart of the beta - and thus are not really in any position to judge. I've actually been beta-ing PI for about a month now and can only say good things about both the program and the manner inwhich PI has come to utilize user imput. They have a rather meticulous bunch of programmers/staff who parouse the beta message board each and every day - providing answers to whatever questions/comments/problems etc are posed - usually within minutes. What's more, our ideas on improving the functionality of PI are already being implanted into the program. In regards to your notion of the redistributed money as being akin to 'monopoly money' - I would simply say that you should think before you speak. The 'peer cash' can be used for purchasing more media, which is anything but unreal. In the end, we the consumers appear to have 2 choices: we can either use non p2p media-sharing programs such as itunes/music match etc. and so limit ourselves to being merely the last stops on a one-way money train the runs on the green fuel of our own hard-earned cash, or we can take advantage of 2-way distrubtion services such as Peer Impact who provide us with the ability to make back a little of the money we spend on leagly purchased music by turning our own computers into 'distribution centers' which can then give us the ability to earn back some of the 'fuel' which can then be spent on acquiring new songs.... I'll let you and your readers be the judge of which is the better option, although judging from the aloofness of your initial post, I am weary to do so. My wallet demands me to take my chances on something that at least gives back a little rather than on that which will only take alot.

3. It's apparent that you skimmed over the positive observations I made in my post, but your comment is astute. However, the fact remains that "credit" is not the same as "cash" or "money", and in this respect, Peer Impact's press releases border on intentionally misleading. I agree that being able to earn something in return for your loyalty is nothing but a good thing, but let's call a spade a spade and credit credit, not "cash".

4. If 'cash' is the word they used then I must agree with your initial disdain for the service's press release. That being said, us beta-ers have suggested on numerous occassions that Peer impact take advantage of the built in "buyers port" (which is, I've been told, another one of PI parent co. ventures) by allowing us to use "PI cash" for purchases made within the portal - and if this goes down, which it hopefully will (they say they dig the idea and are currently working on getting it through), then that should alliviate some of the 'cash' vs. 'credit' issues you've raised.
Also, I just wanted to bring up another issue, which is the whole notion of 'community' which i've experienced thus far in PI. Granted, its a small number of beta-ers right now, and the talk has slowed as of late because theyre doing a good job of fixing every bug and answering all of our concerns, I still feel ridiculously more involved in the whole music-acquirering process then Ive ever felt dling off of a server oriented distribution service such as itunes or musicmatch. This may not be an issue with either yourself or many others, but I personally dont mind (actually i enjoy it) having to interact with other peeps who dig the same music I do - just like I do on other boards/services such as ufck.org etc. Its a cool addition and will hopefully bring members of PI together under the auspice of sharing music - which can never be a bad thing. I dunno, i guess i miss how music used to be traded (remember b&p's!?) and feel worried about the anonymous direction the industry seems reluctant to head towards. who knows, but i digress...
Also, if you want a beta invite, hit me back with an email, I guess they give you 5$ to spend however you want - so the worst that can happen is that you get 5 songs for taking some time to check out something that has the potential of becoming pretty cool if people like yourself get involved an give some input in terms of the direction the service needs to go (trust me, they'll respond)

i consider $1 to be insanely high price for a single song.

why is it that i can buy a book (you remember that paper made thing) for $5 and enjoy it two or three days and i pay $1 to listen something 4 min ? wondering minds want to know ...

6. BTW - Yesterday Peer Impact removed its "Invite-Only" status. You can go to their web directly http://www.peerimpact.com and download the beta.

And you still get the $5 credit...
