Hot on the heels of
Bitmunk comes
Peer Impact. At face value the business model seems to be about
the same: You download legitimate content from them, and then act as a distributor to other downloaders, whereupon you
get a cut of whatever they pay for the content. However, it would appear that there's no way to make actual cash by
using Peer Impact: rather, you're paid with "PeerCash", which is like monopoly money that you can use to buy more
DRMed-up content. The site is a bit ugly, but at least they've got a Top 10 list and screenshots of their (similarly
ugly) software, which looks like a mix of Kazaa, iTunes, and Amazon. Peer Impact is
now in "invite-only" beta mode, which means you'll
need to know someone on "the inside" to get in yourself.
