AllPeers is a platform for P2P computing that has been in development since March 2003 and is currently in alpha test. They will be releasing a public beta version in the next few weeks and are recruiting beta testers for the first P2P service—a community for digital photo sharing and photo blogging.

The fundamental idea behind AllPeers is to offer complementary and integrated social services on a P2P network where each user remains fully in control of his or her profile. The use of a P2P network makes AllPeers scalable and flexible; for example, with the AllPeers Digital Photo Sharing service, the user has no limits on how many photos can be shared, as well as fine-grained control over which groups or specific users are able to view which photos. The idea is to roll out additional services in the future that will integrate with the photo sharing service.

Unlike other social software, AllPeers does not rely on a central server. Instead, users manage their profile and other information and media locally. Users can choose precisely with whom they want to share specific information or files.
