The RIAA got involved in another legal dispute. Now they are being accused.
Altnet—an online distributor of licensed digital content—which is partly owned by Sharman Networks, has filed a lawsuit against the RIAA for "infringing its copyright as they try to enforce copyright laws regarding P2P sites." Altnet alleges that spoof versions of songs placed on P2P networks violate their patented technology for identifying files.
The lawsuit is the second move after a cease-and-desist letter that was sent last November. The lawsuit indicted not the RIAA but also Overpeer, Loudeye, Media Sentry and four executives at the RIAA and Loudeye.
