According to a PR company—The Jun Group—Steve Winwood's album, About Time, quadrupled its sales after publishing a free track on P2P networks via MagnetMix.
"The sales increase is solely attributable to [the p-to-p promotion], since it's the only way [the album] is being promoted now this is proof that the file sharing community is a very affluent, desirable market, and that [p-to-p networks] can be used to increase record sales."
I'd take the words above, as well as the press release, with a few grains of salt. I'd like Jun Group to show us the numbers.
[Thanks Keith]
